If I was playing music in a foreign land and was made to feel that it was anything but a pursuit of beauty, I’d hope the other musicians might have my back. I played all the instruments and voices while drinking tea in my pajamas. I clearly paraphrased the lyrics, but the original Tinariwen lyric is “It is better for a man to preserve his soulful nobility and keep his memories safe.”
